Postdoctoral position in numerical simulations of galaxy formation LABORATOIRE D’ASTROPHYSIQUE DE L’ECOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FEDERALE DE LAUSANNE (EPFL) Observatoire de Sauverny - 51 Chemin des Maillettes Versoix, CH-1290 Switzerland Tel: +41 22 379 24 69 FAX: +41 22 379 22 35 URL1:http://lastro.epfl.ch (Laboratoire d’astrophysique (EPFL)) The closing date for receipt of applications: 12/30/2006 Attention: Mrs N. Tharin, Secretary
We invite applications to The Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland) for a postdoctoral position in numerical simulations of galaxy formation.
The research activities of the Laboratory of Astrophysics include, among other subjects, the phenomenon of gravitational lenses, quasar host galaxies and black holes, and the formation and evolution of galaxies in the Universe from the nearby to the most distant ones. The Laboratory of EPFL combines its resources with those of the Geneva Observatory. It has excellent local computing facilities as well as access to larger super-computing facilities.
We are looking for candidates with theoretical and computational background. Experience in chemodynamical simulations will be appreciated.
The appointment will be for two years, renewable up to a third year, subject to performance review and funding. Stipends depend on the year of the PhD thesis and will be in the range CHF 70,000 - 82,000. Additional funds are available for travels to conferences and removal expenses. The position is avalaible as soon as January 1, 2007.
Applications with CV, bibliography, and research plan should be sent to the above postal address by 30 December 2006. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent independently to the same address.
